Why you should be on BlueSky (Even If You're Already on Every Other App).

TL;DR: Bluesky is weird, promising, human, and kind of exciting. It’s like Twitter—when Twitter was useful, but better and definitely worth checking out.

Let’s face it, social media is saturated—but every so often, a new platform emerges that actually delivers. Enter Bluesky: a decentralized, open-source social app that might just be the reset button we’ve all been looking for especially given the direction that X, formerly known as Twitter, has gone.

1. It’s a Fresh Start Without the Baggage

Bluesky isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. It’s not chasing trends or drowning you in ads. It's lightweight, text-forward, and refreshingly stripped-down—reminiscent of early Twitter (in a good way). That means:

  • Real conversations

  • A real opportunity to grow your following organically (just like early Twitter)

  • An opportunity to gain traction for promoting your next project

  • Fewer trolls

  • Less spam

If you’ve ever wanted to participate in an online space without algorithms and brands dictating what you see, you should definitely give Bluesky a shot.

2. The Community Feels... Better

Bluesky has grown more intentionally and the result is a community that is curious, thoughtful, and genuine. It is growing quickly, though. You’ll find your favorite writers, scholars, artists, developers, journalists, thought-makers there, along with the internet’s cat meme fanatics—and it’s a mix that is definitely working.

3. It’s Built for the Future of the Web

Bluesky is built on the AT Protocol, an open-source, decentralized social networking protocol. As technical as this sounds, it means, in theory, that what happened at Twitter probably won’t happen with Bluesky. And one day, if necessary, you'll be able to take your followers and content with you to other apps that use the same protocol.

4. No Algorithm, No Problem

Bluesky’s feed is chronological. Radical, right? You see what people you follow post—when they post it. No endless advertisements or “suggested for you” posts to distract you. No mysterious algorithm trying to guess what you care most about. You can also follow custom feeds built by others. Want a feed just for cat photos, poetry, tech news, or leftist memes? You’ll find it on Bluesky.

5. It’s Still Early (But Not Too Early)

Bluesky is still growing, and that’s a great thing for you since you can a) more easily connect with thought-makers and b) help shape the conversation and culture instead of just passively posting into the ether. If you’re a creator, author, artist, or just someone with a point of view looking to get in on the ground floor, now is the time.
